Walking
in Cornwall Walking
around Cornwall and on the Moor
Welcome to the ancient County of Cornwall, famous for its
spectacular coastline and wonderful
sandy beaches. Get up and Go for a walk,
to the north the Atlantic pounds the beaches and the rollers provide magnificent
surfing, whereas only a few miles across you have the sheltered south coast which
offers ideal conditions for sailing and water sports. The farm is situated in
an area of outstanding natural beauty, with direct
access onto the Moor, intriguing rock formation, a wealth of archaeology both
Neolithic and industrial literally on the doorstep and has something unique to
offer to walkers, various degrees of walks, and places of great historical interest.
Bodmin Moor also reveals rugged inland walking through granite strewn moors whose
main occupants are moorland sheep and ponies. The granite has been put to good
use in the building of traditional Cornish cottages which are evident in villages
throughout Cornwall, particularly those associated with the old mining communities,
including our farm house and the farm cottages. Recently granite has been shipped
to Plymouth and London. . Cornwall
boasts a number of well marked and maintained paths including the SW Coast Path,
the Cornish Way, the Saint's Way and the Mineral Tramway, approximately 260 miles
in length, and as far as we understand a public right of way, the SW Coast Path,
gives walkers access to almost the entire length of Cornwall's majestic coastline,
a walkers paradise, while the Cornish Way criss-crosses the whole county. The
lanes, between villages, are characterised by high, grass covered stone hedges,
the traditional Cornish Hedge,
all of our hedges on our farm are constructed with Cornish granite,
which in most cases have stood for hundreds of years withstanding everything the
elements have thrown at them.
One
of the most popular ways to get away from it all in Cornwall is on your own two
feet, get back to nature and see the beauty of Cornwall from places only reached
by foot, no walker could ever get bored in Cornwall. With one of the most scenic,
and longest (over 300 miles) stretches of the South West Coast Path, and an inland
path network of over 2,400 miles
The South
West Coast Path is one
of the world's greatest tourist attractions by Lonely Planet's Best in Travel
guide 2009. The route covers
five areas of outstanding natural beauty, two world heritage sites and a national
park in 630 miles, which means no two days are alike!
Cornwall has 12 separate Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), covering
a total of 958 sq km. These areas include ten stretches of Cornish coastline,
the Camel Estuary and Bodmin Moor including Minions, the home of Cheesewring
Farm and Explorecornwall Cottages. The 12 areas that make up the AONB in Cornwall
are incredibly diverse and distinct in their characters. They represent Cornwall's
finest landscapes.
